The problem with PST files
You need Outlook installed just to open a PST file. That means a Windows PC, an Outlook license, and the patience to wait while it loads gigabytes of data.
Outlook's search is slow and unreliable for large PST archives. Finding one email in a 5 GB PST file can take minutes, or fail silently.
PST files can't be shared across a team. If HR, legal, or a replacement hire needs to search a former employee's archive, someone has to open it on their own machine.
How it works
How Evermail handles PST files
Upload your PST file
Drag and drop or select your .pst file. Evermail auto-detects the format. Compressed PST archives (.zip containing .pst) are also supported.
Evermail converts and indexes
The PST file is converted to a standard format using Microsoft's MS-PST specification. Every email, attachment, and folder is extracted and indexed for full-text search.
Search and browse in your browser
Find any email by keyword, sender, recipient, date, or attachment name. Browse threaded conversations. Download attachments. No Outlook needed.
Technical details
What gets extracted from your PST file
Every email message
Subject, sender, recipients (To, CC, BCC), date, and full message body (plain text and HTML). Threading and conversation grouping are preserved.
All attachments
File attachments are extracted and stored separately. Download individual files or search by attachment filename across your archive.
Folder structure
Outlook folder hierarchy (Inbox, Sent Items, custom folders) is preserved so you can browse your archive the way it was organized.
Encryption options
Choose Full Service, Confidential Processing, or Zero-Access encryption for each PST archive you upload. BYOK is supported.

Common questions
PST file questions
Can I open a PST file without Outlook?
Yes. Upload your PST file to Evermail and browse or search it in your web browser. Evermail parses PST files server-side using the MS-PST specification, so no Outlook installation is required.
What is a PST file?
A PST (Personal Storage Table) file is Microsoft Outlook's data file format for storing emails, contacts, and calendar entries. PST files are the most common enterprise email archive format and are created when exporting from Outlook or Exchange.
How large a PST file can I upload?
Free accounts support PST files up to 1 GB. Pro accounts support up to 5 GB, Team up to 10 GB, and Enterprise up to 100 GB per upload. Evermail validates the decompressed size against your plan limits.
Can I export emails back to Outlook?
Yes. Select the emails you need and export them as EML files, which Outlook can import directly. You can also export as MBOX format. Your data is never locked in.
Is the original PST file kept?
Yes. The original PST file is stored encrypted in Azure Blob Storage. You can download it at any time. The indexed copy is separate and used only for search and browsing.
Other supported formats
Evermail also supports these email archive formats.
